Apple has patented OLED-display with built-in fingerprint reader

Apple has patented OLED-display with built-in fingerprint reader

Designers have repeatedly demonstrated the concepts in their iPhone with fingerprint scanner Touch ID, built directly into the display.

This idea seems to have the right to existence and implementation in the future. This is indirectly indicates a new patent application No. 20150331508, which was filed by Apple Inc. in May last year in the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent documentation describes in detail the OLED-screen, as the basis for which is used a silicon substrate. It is formed by an array of transistors with one or more metallization layers and vias, then OLED layers, color filters, sensors and other sensors. The result is a touchscreen OLED-display with the ability to fingerprint, is responsible for what the photodiode. In other words, it will replace the full fingerprint sensor Touch ID, which is now embedded in the physical button Home, framed by a metal ring and protected by sapphire glass.

The use of such OLED-displays will in future completely abandon the Home button with Touch ID in the new iPhone and iPad. However, the timing of the patent are not specified.
